Man Wanted In Out-Of-State Slaying Arrested In Georgetown

COLOMA, Mich. (AP/CBS4) — A man wanted in connection with a double slaying in Michigan has been captured in Colorado.

Alex Perez was arrested early Friday in Georgetown, Colorado, more than 1,100 miles from Coloma, Mich. where he is suspected of killing the mother of his two daughters and her father.

An Amber Alert was issued for the 3-and 4-year-old sisters after they were discovered missing late Thursday.

The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Paul Osckel spotted Perez and the girls in a parked, running vehicle. He checked the license plate, found Perez was wanted and took him into custody after a brief struggle.

"It was just really good police work on the part of the Clear Creek County deputy, he had not even received the Amber Alert yet he was just doing his job as a patrolman. What happened is he probably saved the lives of two little girls for all we know," said Detective Sgt. Fabian Suarez of the Michigan State Police.

Suarez believes Perez was headed back home to Los Angeles when he was found.
