Man Injured In Fall Trying To Escape Fire Unaware His Son Was Killed

DENVER (CBS4) - Another family in Denver is reeling after a deadly house fire Tuesday night.

Ralph Andrade Jr., 49, was bedridden because of multiple sclerosis and died in the fire. Six others were injured, including Andrade's parents, Ralph and Josephine, who are still hospitalized.

The fire broke out Tuesday evening at the home on West Stanford Avenue, which is near the intersection of West Quincy Avenue and South Kipling Street.

Home video from a neighbor captured the chaos and flames that spread quickly through the Andrade family home. A family member spoke to media on Thursday and says they want to thank the firefighters, neighbors and people at the scene who tried to rescue family members and also save their home.

Josephine and Ralph Andrade -- both in their 70s -- were inside along with Ralph Junior. Two additional family members also made it out and are expected to be okay.

Ralph Andrade III, the head of the family, suffered a head injury after coming out of a window. He was helped down by people rescuing him. His health is currently struggling and he isn't aware that his son died in the fire.

"The impact is devastating … emotions are high; you cry one moment, you just try to keep everyone together," son-in-law BJ Purvis said.
