1 Dead After Divers Pull 3 Juveniles From Icy Pond In Parker
PARKER, Colo. (CBS4)- One of three juveniles pulled from the icy waters of a retention pond in Parker died at the hospital on Thursday night.
Dive teams in Parker worked to free a juvenile who had been under the ice for about 35 minutes on Thursday afternoon. Two other juveniles had been rescued and rushed to the hospital.
The retention pond is located in the Hidden Village neighborhood near Parker and Tallman Roads.
"When he got on scene and saw the juvenile struggling in the water, broke a tree branch off, used the tree branch to help pull the juvenile to the edge and then was able to get the juvenile out," said Parker Police Lt. Chris Peters.
All three juveniles attend Legend High School but have not been identified.
One juvenile remained in critical condition at Children's Hospital and a third was recovering at Parker Adventist Hospital.
Parker police tweeted an update on the rescue attempt once the last juvenile was pulled from the water.
The ice partially covered the retention pond.
Copter4 flew over the emergency response in the Parker neighborhood where more than a dozen emergency and police vehicles were lined up as part of the rescue effort.
Divers from South Metro Fire Rescue and Parker police officers were part of the rescue that began just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
It is unclear what the juveniles were doing on the pond before falling in.
