Lottery Officials 'Extremely Happy' Last 2 Powerball Jackpots Have Rolled

By Howard Nathan

DENVER (CBS4) - The Powerball jackpot is now $1.4 billion.

From now until Wednesday the lottery machines are bound to be humming. There seems to be no end to the interest in people wanting to win the latest Powerball jackpot.

"We are pretty much flabbergasted that the last two jackpots have rolled, we're extremely happy about it," Brooke Christopher with the Colorado Lottery said.

Six partial winning tickets produced winners Saturday in Colorado, ranging from $50,000 to $150,000, including a gas station on Alameda Avenue in Denver.

"I think it is exciting, $150,000," gas station store manager Kim Swepston said.

CBS4's Howard Nathan asked, "So you have some good mojo?"

"Yes, I only sell winners," Swepston said.

Swepston is no stranger to winners. Last year she sold three winning tickets to the same man.

"Do the winners ever give you a couple of bucks?" Nathan asked.

"They have, yes," Swepston replied.

"Oh, how much?" Nathan asked.

"I won't disclose," she replied.

How do some people pick their numbers? One man told Nathan, "Eenie, meenie, miney, moe, that's how I do it.'"

What would you do with the $1.4 billion?

"Buy my parents a house because our house is too little, and because I want my family to live together," said 8-year-old Abigail Chavez of Denver.

"Buy a lot of cars for my friends … because I didn't have a car and they always gave me rides," said Robert Romero of Northglenn.

But what if no one wins on Wednesday?

"Sky's the limit, we have no idea where it could go," Christopher said.

The last chance to buy a Powerball ticket is Wednesday by 7:30 p.m. The drawing is at 9 p.m.
