Coloradans Line Up To Get Tickets For One Of The Largest Powerball Jackpots Ever

By Matt Kroschel

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - With the drawing of one of the biggest Powerball jackpots of all times nearing, our CBS4 Mountain Newsroom decided to go buy a ticket, and then start our shopping list.

With 500 million reasons to play, lots of people are in lining up across the state to test their luck. The odds are not good, but since you have to play to win, this reporter purchased exactly one Powerball ticket from the Shell gas station in Silverthorne.

In anticipation of being the big winner, our CBS4 crew went out Wednesday to figure out how we could spend all that money. (If we win, and take the lump sum, $306 million) we have a lot of work to do to spend all that money.

Our first stop was Jim Hudson Chevrolet in Silverthorne. Test driving the brand new Cadillac Esclade, we couldn't decide on a color, so we put three on the list, at $100,000 apiece, no big deal. We thought a new Corvette would be a nice addition to the fleet, so at $90,000 we got that in white and blue.

Now for new housing. A quick search on the Internet found some of the most luxurious living in Summit County at the base of Keystone Resort. A brand new modern finished five-bedroom, six-bathroom home, private path to the ski lift and heated driveways and sidewalks runs us about $3 million -- a bargain if you ask me.

So after a jam-packed shopping day we only spent about $4 million. With the remainder I suppose we could make an offer to buy our own ski resort.

The Powerball will be drawn Wednesday at 8:59 p.m. We will have the winning numbers on the CBS4 Facebook page and @CBSDenver on Twitter.

Good Luck!
