I-70 Mountain Corridor Smooth On Thursday, Won't Be Come Sunday

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Heavy traffic is expected on the Interstate 70 mountain corridor this holiday weekend.

Westbound traffic should increase Thursday and Friday nights, meaning eastbound traffic should be very heavy on Sunday.

Traffic was steady but moving up and down I-70 Thursday afternoon even though earlier in the week the Colorado Department of Transportation put out warnings to expect about an hour delay on Thursday.

Drivers CBS4's Matt Kroschel talked to on Thursday afternoon said they were happy to be able to make it through the corridor in relatively good time.

"Sometimes I'm sitting there for a while, but today was great," driver Deanna Holloway said. "I was a little worried, I didn't know how the weather would be up here and if the traffic would be backed up going into Denver. But the weather has been great and the roads are clear."

But drivers certainly aren't out of the woods yet as CDOT expects a lot more traffic in the days to come as drivers move back and forth through the corridor for the holidays.
