BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4) - A man is facing several charges and a dog has been quarantined after the man's pet allegedly bit a small child causing serious injury in Breckenridge.

According to police in Breckenridge, last Thursday afternoon the dog bit the child at The Village at Breckenridge near a valet station.

"The owner of the dog left the scene before identifying himself to the victim's family," police said in a statement.

Police said a short investigation led them to suspect Alec J. Peyton, 23, in Fort Collins on Saturday. He was arrested and the dog was quarantined at the Larimer County Humane Society.

Peyton faces charges of felony child abuse, and two misdemeanors of reckless endangerment and unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog.
