Iraq War Vet Killed In Planned Parenthood Attack Reportedly Ran To Warn Others

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - The former staff sergeant of a veteran who was killed in last Friday's attack at a Planned Parenthood clinic told CBS4 he isn't surprised by the reports of an act heroism by the victim before his death.

Ke'Arre Stewart, 29, was one of three people killed in the attack in Colorado Springs, which also left nine others with injuries. Police say Stewart and the other victims were shot in a murderous rampage by Robert Lewis Dear, 57, of Hartsel, who is scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon.

Tony Fisher said through tears in an interview with CBS4 on Sunday that he is having a hard time forgiving the gunman.

"We all have our political views and what not, but we don't go shooting places up," Fisher said.

Stewart was a father of two daughters, ages 11 and 6, who live in Texas. He served on the front lines in the Iraq War as a member of the Fourth Infantry Division out of Fort Carson.

"He would charge up the side of a mountain if you told him to without any questions and be successful at it," Fisher said.

Fisher said he and Stewart spent Thanksgiving together, and that his death the next day came as an absolute shock. A sister of Stewart's reportedly said he was shot outside the Planned Parenthood clinic but then ran in the building to warn everyone inside.

"Infantry guys, we don't go down like like no punks, you know. We care about what's going on around us. We care about other people," said Stewart, who envisions Fisher dying a "warrior's death."

Stewart's brother Leyonte Chandler also spoke with shock after the murder.

"Almost half a million people here and it happened to be my brother out of all these people. Random," Chandler told CBS News' David Begnaud.

"The guy didn't know him. He didn't know the guy."
