Brothers Rescue Bald Eagle, Take A Selfie Before Releasing

DOWLING, Canada (CBS4) - Video of two brothers' rescue of a bald eagle in Canada is trending online Monday. Michael Fletcher posted the video to Facebook on Nov. 24, and it has since received thousands of views and shares.

He was with his brother Neil in the woods near Dowling, Canada looking for grouse to shoot, the Sudbury Star reports, when they came across an eagle in a trap.

The two decided to help the animal, but first though to record the incident, thinking it would never happen again.

Michael placed his jacket over the eagle's head to calm it while they worked to release the trap. The bird remained calm even when the sweatshirt was removed and the men raised it chest-high for a photo.

"It didn't really fuss or give any sign of aggression. I don't know if it knew we were helping him or what," Michael told The Sudbury Star.

After recording the experience and making sure to snap a selfie, the men released the bird, seemingly uninjured. Its wings and even the toe that was caught in the trap seemed fine, and there was no blood.

The Fletchers said they're glad they got to the eagle when they did, before an animal like a coyote got to it or the bird exhausted itself after a few days.

They contacted the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry afterward, who appreciated their work and planned to contact the owner of the trap.

Bald eagles can be seen in Colorado.
