Denver Holiday Shopping Begins On The Eve Of Black Friday

By Melissa Garcia

DENVER (CBS4) -Holiday shoppers were out gobbling up the deals, as dozens of stores across the Denver metro area prepared to open their doors this Thanksgiving.

Experts expected sales nationwide this holiday weekend to be up 3.7% over last year.

Some superstores like Kohl's, Target, and Best Buy were scheduled to open their doors Thursday evening, while others started Thanksgiving sales even earlier, in the morning.

The wintry weather didn't stop shoppers from coming out.

K-Mart on South Broadway stayed busy since doors opened at 6 a.m.

"We actually had customers waiting outside this morning," said Amber Oden, K-Mart store manager.

Thanksgiving Day shopper James Collins loaded up two carts full of savings inside.

"Some of [these items] we got for $3," said Collins.

"I've got Nerf guns, blankets, and jackets," said Diana Jamison, who had a cart full of presents for her grandchildren.

"I looked at all of the ads, I saw what I wanted, and I was just crossing my fingers," said Jamison, who found everything on her wish list.

Many of the big box stores around Denver said they'll offer most in-store deals online as well.  Certain exclusive items, however, will only be available in-store.
