Durango School Officials Reveal Details Of School Bus Crash

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — An investigation into a school bus crash in Durango has determined that the bus driver was distracted by noisy students when he veered off the road and rolled down a 30- to 40-foot embankment.

Durango School District 9-R Superintendent Dan Snowberger said Thursday that video footage of Tuesday's accident shows that 64-year-old William Farley was reaching for his whistle to quiet the 42 students onboard when he crashed.

Only minor injuries were reported Tuesday. Several students have since returned to the hospital for further evaluation.

Farley has been charged with careless driving. He told The Durango Herald Wednesday that he loved the kids and regretted what happened.

Snowberger says Farley had only been driving for less than a week for the district after he completed a five-week training.
