Snowplow Tracking App Helps Residents Plan In Castle Rock

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (CBS4) - The town of Castle Rock will have 24 plows out as the snow falls Monday night into Tuesday morning, and as the snow clearing crews do their work some residents will be tracking their activity online.

Castle Rock officials have been working to improve their digital plow tracking system in recent years. It can be found at CRgov.com/plowtracker, and it works on home computers and mobile devices.

"You can track where the plows have been and we provide a little information on the mapping based on different colors (that show) where the plows will be and when we predict they will be there," said Public Works Director Bob Goebel.

Town officials say the technology helps cut down on phone calls to the town offices and gives residents a good idea about how to best plan out their snow days.

"The information on the map helps folks understand their mobility," Goebel said. "So if they need to run errands, if they need to get to the grocery store, doctor appointment, pick up their kids, whatever it might be it, it gives them some planning capability to get out and do that."

When the snow accumulates past 4 inches the town will begin plowing side streets in addition to the main roads.

A foot or more of snow is predicted to fall in the Castle Rock area by midday Tuesday.
