VA Medical Centers Get Extra Help During 'Access Stand Down'

DENVER (CBS4)- VA medical centers across the country held the first ever "Access Stand Down" where volunteers helped veterans get the care they need.

The locations included the VA Hospital in Denver which provides services on Saturday.

Volunteers helped make sure the veterans got the care they needed and even extra attention if desired.

One Army veteran was called in three months before his originally scheduled appointment.

"The VA has already upgraded from the time I was here six years ago. It's really changed. They've done some very positive things here. They're really paying attention more to veterans and I think Denver is probably one of the top VA's in the United States of America," said U.S. Army Veteran Tony Ward.

On Veterans Day the VA opened up dermatology and physical therapy clinics while serving nearly 100 additional veterans.
