Complete With 'Stompy' Denver Music, KBCO Studio C Release Ready To Go

By Alan Gionet

DENVER (CBS4) - Today's the day we share what's on the much anticipated Volume 27 of the annual KBCO Studio C release.

"Every year we say this is the best one and we mean it. And we mean it this 27th time as well. This is the best one!" said KBCO's Bret Saunders.

People line up to get their hands on it and it usually sells out in hours.

It's a mix like no other this year, and Bret has seen and heard the CD release change through the years.

"There were always terrific bands. You think about Big Head Todd and Monsters, going back a couple of decades, The Samples and other great acts, too. But Denver, Colorado, has become a major music hub because of groups like the Fray and the Lumineers and right now Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats. This guy has been working in this town for years, all of a sudden, he's an international phenomenon."

Bret says Denver is developing its own sound; stompy.

"You want to stomp your feet to it."

But that doesn't cover everything on the wide ranging CD.

Just getting on it is an achievement for many bands -- others are well on their way. Either way, it's come to define the best of Colorado's music through the years.

"You can't really nail a KBCO Studio C CD down to one sound. I think there might have been a perception years ago where it was all kind of laid back acoustic music folk rock, that just isn't the case anymore."

The CD will go on sale at Colorado Whole Foods Markets on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 8 a.m. Proceeds go to the Boulder County AIDS Project and Food Bank of the Rockies, so you also help a great cause.

Bret knows this year's mix is going to be huge. He suggests with a sly smile, "I think if you don't have this CD, you're not really part of Colorado."

At least, we think he's joking.
