car2go is a car sharing company that charges drivers by the minute. The City of Denver supports the program by issuing "vehicle area permits" which allow the car2go vehicles to park at meters or any on-street right-of-way parking spaces that has a 2-hour or more time limit.

All of the incidents  happened within the company's permitted area of operation. There may be a sixth flipped car.

This is not the first time car2go Smart Cars have been flipped. It happened about a year ago near a college campus in Columbus, Ohio.

It's unclear if this act is a prank or a protest.

The degree of damage to each car is unknown. car2go righted the vehicles Sunday morning and hauled them away for repairs.

There were still several upright car2go cars in the area on Sunday.

Michael Pletsch, general manager of car2go in Denver, shared the following statement with CBS4 on Monday morning about the situation:

"At car2go we feel very much a part of the Denver community and we will continue to work closely with local law enforcement officials as they investigate this unfortunate incident. In the event of vandalism to our vehicles our goal is to work quickly to repair the damage and get the vehicles back on the road for our over 35,000 members in Denver who rely on car2go daily to get around the city with ease."
