Study Ranks Cities According To Which Fans Drink The Most On NFL Game Days

DENVER (CBS4) - A new study has organized data from NFL Sundays on fans' blood alcohol content.

BACtrack collected anonymous breathalyzer data from users of the app BACtrack Mobile, a smartphone breathalyzer, and paired it with Twitter's map of NFL fan allegiance.

Their findings display people's Blood Alcohol Content levels and corresponding teams, revealing which fans drink the most on NFL game days.

The data was taken from Sunday games beginning in the pre-season through October 26. The legal limit of alcohol in the body is 0.08% BAC.

Denver Broncos fans fall right in the middle, with an average game day BAC level of 0.037%.

NFL fans with the highest average BAC levels on game day are those supporting the Buffalo Bills, at 0.076%. Tied for second are Detroit Lions fans (0.069%) and Philadelphia Eagles fans (0.069%).

Following them are Cleveland Browns fans (0.064%) and Arizona Cardinals fans (0.062%).

So which team has the most responsible fans? Cincinnati Bengals have the lowest average BAC levels on game day, at 0.015%, nearly sober. Fans of the Tennessee Titans as well as the New Orleans Saints average 0.021% BAC on game day, and New York Giants fans have a BAC of 0.033%.

This is the second year in a row that Buffalo Bills fans have had the highest average BAC levels.

Contrary to what one would think, a team's record does not influence the average BAC level of fans. The Bengals and Titans are examples of this, with a losing record but BAC levels at 0.015% and 0.021%, respectively.

However, it is true that BAC levels increase with the start of the football season. Two thirds of all NFL fans have a higher BAC average during the regular season than the preseason.

Eagles and Browns fans best demonstrate this, with BAC levels that are 49% and 84% higher, respectively, during the regular season than preseason.
