Melanie Griffith Uses Unique Marketing Strategy In Effort To Sell $8.9 Million Colorado Home

ASPEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Hollywood heavyweight Melanie Griffith must really want to sell her Aspen Mountain retreat. The actress agreed to appear in a YouTube video listing the home for sale. It's an unusual move drawing plenty of interest.

And if you have $8.9 million laying around, the retreat could be yours.

Real estate agent Bob Bowden says the unique marketing strategy might be the first time a celebrity has used their star power to market their own home. You need a view hovering above to understand the scale of Griffith's Aspen Mountain retreat.

"Melanie was so interested and in love with this property that she was happy to go ahead and lend her name to it and entrust that name to us just so that people could understand what a special place this is," Bowden said.

Bowden knows having the Academy Award nominee agree to appear in commercials for her own home is a bit out of the ordinary. He's sold a lot of homes in more than three decades of real estate in Aspen.

"Came in 1984, the town was quite different," he said.

Bowden knows how tight the market is there, and just how many of the rich and famous still want their very own piece of Aspen.

"So the prices now are, well, they're a good 10 times what they were when I first came into town," Bowden said.

Homes routinely sell in and around Aspen for more than $3,000 per square foot, only rivaled by New York City. Bowden thinks the Griffith property is a steal at $8.9 million.

"At this price, $1,000 a square foot, this actually represents a tremendous value."

But like Bowden says, the word "expensive" is relative in Aspen.

Griffith's estate has been on the market for four days so far and so far there haven't been any offers.

The commercial is set to air on regional cable outlets in the coming days.
