Teal Pumpkin Project Welcomes Trick-Or-Treaters With Allergies

DENVER (CBS4)- Kids are getting ready for Halloween and trick-or-treating on Saturday but what about those with allergies or those who can't have candy? One organization has a solution-- teal pumpkins.

The non-profit organization Food, Allergy, Research and Education started the Teal Pumpkin Project last year.

Families who want to participate place a teal pumpkin on their doorstep. It alerts families that the home will be giving out toys instead of treats. Parents say it makes the holiday more fun for their kids with allergies.

"It makes Halloween extremely difficult. There's a lot of anxiety because we want her to have the experience that other kids have of trick-or-treating but we also need to make sure she's safe," mother Michelle Oganov.
