Grand Jury Indictment: Couple Was Speeding, Arguing Before Deadly Crash
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- Months after police believed a distracted driver caused a deadly crash in Lakewood, a grand jury says both the driver and passenger were to blame.
Police initially said Andrew Huerena, the driver of a Ford Focus, became distracted while driving on 6th Avenue when his passenger, Alisha Huerena, was changing the radio station. Officers believed the vehicle hit a bump in the road which caused the passenger's hand to hit the steering wheel.
Huerena struck a Toyota 4-Runner. That SUV rolled several times and struck the light rail fencing. The driver, Kimberly Henderson, 51, died. Her 9-year-old son was a passenger in the SUV. He was taken to Denver Health with moderate injuries.
Now, according to a grand jury indictment, Andrew Huerena and his wife, Alisha, were arguing and Alisha grabbed the steering wheel. That's when the car lost control and crashed into Henderson and her son.
