Group Of WWII Vets Returns From Courtesy 2-Day Trip Touring Memorials In Nation's Capital

DENVER (CBS4) - A group of Colorado World War II veterans is back home after a special trip to Washington, D.C.

A large crowd gathered at Denver International Airport Saturday night to welcome the veterans home.

Several hundred vets were flown to the nation's capital courtesy of Rocky Mountain Honor Flight. The vets received a two-day tour of the city and were given special access to several memorial sites.

Honor Flight's mission is to allow World War II veterans from the Rocky Mountain region a chance to see memorials in Washington, D.C. that were created in their honor. The group says it's a way of showing the aging heroes gratitude for the freedom Americans enjoy today.
