Colorado Travelers Feeling Impact Of Hurricane Patricia

DENVER (CBS4)- People in Colorado are feeling the impact of Hurricane Patricia along with those who are coping with flight cancellations at Denver International Airport.

Denver resident Chris Genry is in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with friends to celebrate a birthday. The villa they are renting overlooks the beach and they're watching the weather closely.

Genry says emergency personnel are going up and down the streets there with a loud speaker warning people to evacuate or hunker down when the storm hits.

"There is a bunker for us to go into when it makes landfall and we'll make the best of it" said Genry.

He says some of his friends decided to catch taxis and head inland.

Some domestic travelers at DIA are feeling the impact of Hurricane Patricia.

"I'm trying to head to Dallas but because of the weather I've got two cancellations already," said Kurt Bourke.

He isn't sure when or if he'll reach Dallas.

Tourists in Mexico say grocery stores are closing their doors and some are boarding up their windows.

One tourist is already worried about his stomach, "I'm just nervous I'll run out of food because everything is closing."

Genry and friends are hoping travel will be back to normal by Monday when they're scheduled to return home to Denver.
