DENVER (CBS4) – Halloween isn’t here yet but many retailers are already getting ready for the holidays.
Englewood-based Sports Authority plans on hiring 3,500 temporary workers. They will start hiring this month and continue through December.
Sports Authority is far from alone — Target, Toys”R”Us, Kohl’s, and Macy’s are all beefing up their staff.
“It’s an expanding retail climate, business is good, and as a result stores are hiring more and more,” said Nick LeMasters, General Manager of Cherry Creek Shopping Center.
The retail hub just completed its latest expansion.
“Not only are a lot of our new stores looking for employees, but many of our existing stores,” LeMasters said.
LeMasters said Monday that 60 stores in Cherry Creek are adding staff for the holidays, totaling in more than 100 new jobs.
“There is always the expectation that stores are going to need additional help this time of year. Only it seems like this year they’re looking for more help,” LeMasters added.
It’s not just retail — the United State Postal Service looking to fill more than 900 jobs across the Front Range alone.
They range from temporary clerks to mail handlers and carriers. According to USPS, about 500 of those jobs may lead to permanent positions. USPS is predicting a record holiday mailing season.
