Woman Trying To Sell Computer Attacked By Man Who Posed As Buyer

DENVER (CBS4)- A Denver woman was attacked by a man who posed as a buyer when she tried to sell her laptop computer online.

The victim was selling everything of value that she had, her laptop, stereo equipment, speakers and her cellphone on the site OfferUp. A man going by the name Max Long contacted her about the MacBook Pro.

He came to her house to allegedly make the purchase but after a short exchange, he tried to drive off with the computer.

The victim fought back but was thrown from the car and in the process lost her cellphone.

"I backed down because I knew my life wasn't worth a computer or cellphone and he threw me out of the car," the woman told CBS4's Stan Bush.

She asked CBS4 not to show her face but she did show the scars and bruises left after the suspect attacked her.

The man who posted under the name Max Long is described as a 20-year-old black man about 5-foot-9 with a thin build. He was driving a dark green sedan with no license plates and responded to the name Corey.

"I don't want it to happen to other people because that guy thinks he can just get away with it and it's not fair," said the woman.

After the incident the victim found the suspect selling the phone that she lost in the scuffle on the same site where she had initially listed the laptop for sale.

The victim, a full-time student, was selling her stuff to save money to buy a car so she could drive to her late night shift at Walmart. She is also concerned because the suspect knows where she lives.

"It's not okay because people work hard for what they have. It's not okay to take what they have and beat up other people," said the woman.

Denver Police have launched an active investigation into the incident. Police say those concerned about making an online transaction are urged to meet at a local police station.
