Protected Bike Lanes Installed In Downtown Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - October marks the beginning of construction for protected bike lanes in Denver.

Denver Public Works is installing two lanes downtown that will be protected by street parking. The plan is to enhance bicycle connections between the Auraria Campus and 24th Street.

On Lawrence Street, an eastbound bicycle lane will run from Speer Boulevard to 24th. On Arapahoe Street, a westbound bicycle lane will run from 24th to Speer Boulevard.

The new configuration will have a designated parking lane next to the buffered bike lane, which is against the curb.

Parking will continued to be metered in the marked spots and meters will remain on the sidewalk. People parking will walk across the bike lane to access the parking meter.

It is Denver's first parking-protected bike lane, and won't cut down on traffic lanes.
