Father Of Colorado Man Killed In Arizona Shooting Decries Gun Violence

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — The latest on the shooting at Northern Arizona University:

The father of a Northern Arizona University student who was fatally shot in a campus shooting says something needs to be done about gun violence in the U.S.

Doug Brough, of Castle Rock, Colorado, visited a makeshift memorial Saturday in the parking lot where his son, Colin Brough, was killed.

Brough told The Arizona Republic that he didn't understand why an 18-year-old would have a pistol in his car.

He says gun violence is "devastating" and has to be stopped throughout the country.

Authorities say 18-year-old Steven Jones shot Colin Brough and wounded three other students early Friday following a brawl between two groups of students.

The mother of a Northern Arizona University student who was wounded in a campus shooting says her son is able to talk and remembers the moment just before he was shot in the neck.

Kimberly Prato said Saturday that her son, Nicholas Prato, told her he never saw the suspected shooter before.

She says Nicholas remembers seeing a flashlight and then hearing gunshots.

She says her son likely would have died if the bullet had hit a quarter of an inch to the left.

Nicholas Prato was released Friday and attended a nighttime vigil for the other three victims, including one who was killed.

One of three Northern Arizona University fraternity members shot and wounded by a fellow student has been released from the hospital.

NAU spokeswoman Janea Laudick said Saturday that one of the victims has left the hospital but did not say which one. Laudick says all the victims' families have requested privacy and for no additional information to be released.

Authorities say freshman Steven Jones opened fire with a handgun after a brawl erupted early Friday between two groups of students.

Police say Colin Brough was killed and Nicholas Prato, Kyle Zientek and Nicholas Piring were wounded. All four belonged to Delta Chi fraternity.

Jones was booked Friday on one count of first-degree homicide and three counts of aggravated assault.

The 18-year-old is being held on a $2 million bond.
