Aurora Named Safest Large City In Colorado 2nd Year In A Row

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- For the second year in a row, Aurora has been named the safest large city in Colorado.

According to the FBI's annual "Crime in the United States" report for 2014, Aurora is ranked as the safest large city in the state and the 16th overall safest city in the nation.

Aurora was compared to 75 major cities in the U.S. with a population of 250,000 or more residents.

In 2014, major crime in Aurora dropped by 5.8 percent in the crimes of murder, robbery, burglary and larceny.

"Our ranking as the safest large city in Colorado, and as one of the safest major cities in the country would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of every member of the Aurora Police Department. Our success in keeping Aurora safe would not be possible without the partnerships we have established with the members of the community we serve. By maintaining a solid working partnership with the members of our community, as well as our local and federal law enforcement partners we will continue to make Aurora safer every day," said Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz in a statement.
