Denver Sheriff Warns Of Phone Scam, Callers Ask For Money

DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver Sheriff Department is warning people living in Denver about a scam that involves callers claiming to be with the department.

The officer impersonators then ask for money. The Denver Sheriff Department wants everyone to know that they never call anyone asking for money.

The scam works like this: callers claiming to be with the department tell the person they owe money for an outstanding warrant. The person might be asked to call another number to make a payment.

Residents are warned not to be deceived by caller IDs which might be associated with the City and County of Denver or the Denver Sheriff Department.

Police say if you receive a scam call of this nature, hang up and call the Denver Police Department at 720.913.2000.
