Man Claimed To Be Police Officer Arrested For Sexual Assault

DENVER (CBS4)- Denver police arrested a man wanted for police impersonation and unlawful sexual contact overnight Monday.

A woman says she was approached by the man, walking on foot, near 17th and Xenia. The victim says the suspect began touching her and then claimed to be a police officer.

Briana Freed was sleeping and woke to the commotion outside her home.

"I heard a woman yelling, repeating something over and over," Freed says. "I couldn't tell what she was saying but it was definitely distressed."

Denver Police say the woman did the right thing by making a lot of noise. Doug Schepman with the Denver Police Department says the victim brought a lot of attention to situation.

"That prompted calls to police," Schepman says. "We were able to quickly respond to the area."

The suspect, Morris Fate left in a car but was pulled over just a few blocks away at 14th and Yosemite.

Schepman says, "After he tried to inappropriately touch her, he flashed a badge and claimed to be a police officer."

The woman continued to fight suspect off and was able to get away.
