Mistaken Facebook Identity Leads To Marriage For 2 Strangers

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - A case of a mistaken Facebook identity ultimately lead to two strangers saying "I do."

Schuyler Benson of South Arkansas checked Facebook on his phone back in 2009, but to his surprise, he was logged into the account of a woman he'd never met, as reported by Mashable.

The woman's name was Celeste Zendler, and Benson had no clue how he had accessed her account through his phone. The two had never met, never lived in the same state, had no mutual friends and didn't even share a single Facebook interest.

According to Benson's post on Imgur, he was unable to log out of her account and every time he opened his Facebook for the week he'd find himself on Zendler's account. Benson posted to the woman's account seeking help, "How do you logout of fb mobile? I'm not Celeste and I have no idea how I got on here."

Some of Zendler's friends alerted her of the glitch. Both parties were confused how the mix-up occurred as Benson had never even entered log-in information to begin with.

He was able to log out of her account after sending Zendler a friend request. The two began talking and found out they had a lot in common.

"She's admitted that she intended to delete me a few days later, but it turns out we had a lot in common. Like, a LOT in common. We became close friends online, and finally met in person in June of 2013. In the fall of 2013, she relocated from Colorado to live with me in Arkansas," Benson wrote.

It was after four years of exchanging messages that the pair finally met in person. The couple was engaged the summer after Zendler moved to be with Benson. The couple got married during the summer of 2015.

"I found my partner, my best friend, my great love via a simple glitch in social media. There are awful things in this world, but sometimes there's beauty, too. This is my beauty," Benson wrote.
