Driver May Have Been Street Racing Before Crashing Into House

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) - A driver who was injured when he crashed into the bedrooom wall of a home in Parker may have been street racing.

The Douglas County Sheriff's office said they are investigating whether a race may have led to the crash Monday morning, which also sent the 70-year-old homeowner to the hospital.

Deputies were first alerted to the situation when they began getting 911 calls at 4 a.m. One of those calls came from a newspaper delivery driver.

"I couldn't believe that a car hit right through our house," said Kyle Thompson, a boy who lives in the home. "It was just an unbelievable situation."

The collision with the home came after the driver -- who has been identified as Gunner Bolstad, 20 -- came speeding up the hill below it. The home is located at 5292 Nashua Circle, and several trees were knocked down as the car left the roadway and hurtled towards it.

The impact of the crash sent bricks flying into the bedroom, and one hit the homeowner in the face while he was in bed.

"It was like an earthquake. I had no clue what happened," Thompson said.

Two other people were in the car but they were not hurt, and another person was in the bedroom.

"We were all sleeping and we were all relaxed and then the car came in and it was loud," he said. "It was like a big wrecking ball that just came through and knocked it all over and it was a huge mess."

Bolstad now faces charges that include DUI, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

Thompson said he is dismayed to learn that alcohol was a likely factor in the crash.

"Just don't drink and drive. It kills. It can ruin a house or ruin someone's life," he said.
