Alcohol, Speed Factors In Deadly Crash In Green Valley Ranch

DENVER (CBS4)- Police say alcohol and speed are factors that contributed to a deadly crash in Green Valley Ranch on Friday night.

Police rushed to the two-car crash at Green Valley Ranch and Jebel just before 9 p.m. Friday.

Officer said the driver of the red Chevy Camero was traveling eastbound on Green Valley Ranch Boulevard at a high rate of speed when that vehicle crashed into a Dodge Neon turning onto Green Valley Ranch Boulevard from Jebel.

When officers arrived they found one person in the Neon had been killed. The driver of the Camero faces two felony charges, vehicular homicide reckless and vehicular homicide DUI.

"We don't know exactly what type of speeds we're talking about but speeds maybe 15 to 20 mph in excess of the speed limit which is 35 mph going eastbound," said Denver Traffic Investigations Unit Sgt. Dave Bingham. "The collision was pretty horrific... When you have these collisions so close at such a high rate of speed the impacts are pretty horrific."

Green Valley Ranch Boulevard was closed between Ireland Street and Kirk Street for several hours during the accident investigation and cleanup.
