Denver Police Investigate Possible Child Abduction

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver investigated a possible child abduction near Cesar Chavez Academy on Thursday afternoon. The school said that all students were accounted for.

Police responded to the school in the 3700 block of North Tennyson at 2:40 p.m. Thursday on reports of a possible child abduction.

Denver Police tweeted out an alert about the possible abduction.

The victim is described as a 9-10 year old Hispanic female with brown, shoulder-length hair.

"Through the investigation we've found this female is described as a young Hispanic female, about 9 to 10 years old, about 4-foot-4 to 4-foot-6 in height, little longer than shoulder-length hair... beyond that we don't have a clothing description," said Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a shaved head, thin build, wearing a black sleeveless shirt, black pants and black shoes; last seen in a white panel van with rear windows.

"We're looking at all the cameras in the area and businesses in the area," said Jackson.

Denver Police tweeted an update on the situation that all students at Cesar Chavez were accounted for.

"We're looking to make sure this did not happen, that there's not a child that's missing or has been forced into a vehicle so we're taking this very seriously," said Jackson.

The school released a statement regarding the incident. The letter reads:

Two students expressed a concern about something they observed off campus not related to our students. What they observed did not involve any member of our student body or any member of our school community. No adult could confirm what the students reported seeing.

The administration immediately inspected the perimeter of the school property and could find no indication of any suspicious or dangerous activity. In an abundance of caution we provided the information from the students' report to the police. Any further investigation will be police business and we refer you to the District One Denver Police.

Statement prepared by board member: Dr. Myranda Marsh

"We're always telling our children when you see something, say something. If you're concerned let us know, we don't want them to be dismissed because they're children they may very well have valid information, that's why we're looking into this," said Jackson.
