Army Identifies Fort Carson Soldier Killed In Training Crash

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) - The Army has identified a Fort Carson soldier who died from injuries suffered during a training accident in California.

Officials say that 38-year-old Staff Sgt. Christopher Popham died Wednesday, six days after a Stryker vehicle rolled at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California.

Popham was a cavalry scout and native of Prattville, Alabama. He deployed three times to Iraq during his 13 years in the Army and had been stationed at Fort Carson since January.

Popham was a member of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, part of the 4th Infantry Division.

Fort Carson says two other soldiers were in the Stryker but were not hurt.

The incident is under investigation.
