Men For The Cure Helps Raise Nearly $2 Million To Fight Breast Cancer
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - For 10 years, Men for the Cure has brought together men for a night dinner, drinks, cigars, and fundraising to fight breast cancer.
Men for the Cure was founded in 2000 by philanthropist Sharon Magness Blake and CBS4's Ed Greene in memory of Diane O'Connor Thompson who lost her battle with breast cancer on Thanksgiving Day 1999.
They put together the event to raise money so that families have the resources needed in the battle against the disease.
This year's event at XJet in Englewood brought men to gether for a live auction in which some of the items up for bid included Broncos and other sports memorabilia and a classic guitar.
Over the years, Men for the Cure has become an annual fundraising and educational event for men. It's raised $1.9 million for breast cancer programs and research at the University of Colorado Hospital.
The Breast Center at University of Colorado Hospital features state-of-the-art equipment including 3-D mammography and the Pink Life Saver, a mobile mammography van.
