Jogger On Sidewalk Struck By Hit & Run Driver

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4)- Investigators in Douglas County are searching for a driver who struck a jogger on the sidewalk and then drove away early Tuesday morning.

Deputies say a 50-year-old woman was jogging about 6:35 a.m. Tuesday on the sidewalk in the area of South University Boulevard near Crossland Way in Highlands Ranch when she was struck by a vehicle.

"It looks like a person was driving a vehicle, jumped the curb, hit a jogger who was on the sidewalk on the south side of South University," said Douglas County Sheriff Sgt. Lori Bronner.

The driver did not stop and drove away, leaving the woman with serious injuries.

The situation is causing concern among residents who live near the area.

"It's pretty scary around here, there are a lot of joggers... I'm a jogger so I do try to avoid the roads," said resident Amber Wann.

Investigators are examining vehicle parts left at the scene and are working to compile a suspect vehicle description.

They believe the suspect vehicle could be a red Toyota or Lexus with front end damage and a missing passenger side mirror.

"I hope that we can help find something. If we have a better description of the car and help authorities," said Wann.

Wann has security cameras around her home and examined video in hopes of gathering some evidence for investigators.

"There could be some wide angles to see if there is anything pointing toward University or even in the front of our neighborhood in case someone was trying to get away," said Wann.
