Murdered Cab Driver Remembered At Memorial

DENVER (CBS4)- Fellow cab drivers joined friends and family to remember a cab driver who was shot and killed earlier this month. They gathered for a memorial ceremony on Friday morning.

On Sept. 5, Bloomquist, 49, was shot and killed in his cab after receiving a call to 20000 East Mitchell Place in Green Valley Ranch. According to Metro Taxi, Bloomquist was shot in the head during a robbery.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old in the deadly shooting. The teen remained in custody in the Gilliam Youth Center on Friday.

Bloomquist's colleagues shared memories with his widow, Melva. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock along with homicide detectives also attended the memorial and vowed to bring whoever is responsible for Bloomquist's murder to justice.

Bloomquist took the position as a cab driver to help make ends meet after his wife became disabled.

Bloomquist's widow told CBS4 that she has found comfort in the stories that her husband's friends have shared with her.

"I'm just floored and can't believe all the lives that he has touched," said Melva. "Every day I find out more and more and more about him."

The Denver District Attorney's Office said it is a possibility that the teen could be charged as an adult. The suspect will turn 18 years old in January 2016.

A decision on formal charges could come next week.
