Man In 3-Hour Standoff Attempts 'Suicide By Cop' In Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A man allegedly attempting "suicide by cop" in Summit County on Friday was taken into custody following a three-hour standoff.

According to Taneil Ilano with the Summit County Sheriff's Office, deputies and officers from Frisco, Silverthorne and Dillon responded to a domestic dispute and suicidal party at approximately 2 a.m. in the Dillon Valley Subdivision.

"Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the incident soon turned to an armed barricaded subject. A reverse 911 was immediately sent out to neighbors warning them of the incident and to stay in their homes," Ilano said in a statement.

The armed man "continuously entered and exited his residence threatening to shoot himself or to force law enforcement to shoot him."

The Hostage Negotiation Team was called out and after three hours convinced the man, identified as Thomas Lincoln Lowenstein, 24, to surrender. He was taken into custody without incident.

Lowenstein faces criminal mischief and domestic violence charges.
