CSU's Rashard Higgins Still Day-To-Day, Buffs Hope To Keep Running The Ball

DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado State Rams are hopeful their All-American wide-out Rashard Higgins can play Saturday, but he was still considered day-to-day on Wednesday with a foot injury.

The Rams are getting ready to take on the Colorado Buffaloes in the 87th meeting of the rivals in the Rocky Mountain Showdown on Saturday.

The Buffs have won almost 75 percent of the match-ups, but the Rams have won two of the last three. A win Saturday would give them back-to-back wins in the series for the first time since 1999-2000.

"Coach has been stressing it all week … it's a big game, not only for the team, bur for the fans as well," CSU running back Treyous Jarrells said. "He said we want to keep the trophy here, we want to show CU that we're the big brother and not the little brother like they always say we are."

The Buffs are currently a three-point favorite over the Rams. CU is coming off its first win in almost a year. For the first time in a long time they did it on the ground with 390 rushing yards last week against UMass. It's impressive considering the team hadn't gained over 300 on the ground in eight years.

CU also has a quarterback in Sefo Liufau who last year re-wrote the Buffs' record books.

"I don't think the identity of the team has ever changed, I think we're going with what's kind of hot right now. And if we can run for close to 400 yards, and they can't stop it, then I don't know why you would change what you're doing," Liufau said. "If it's not broken, don't fix it. So if we can do that consistently, then by all means whatever can get us the win. If we have to throw the ball a bunch, kind of like last year, then we'll do that. It's kind of whatever the defense gives us."

The game is this Saturday. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. To purchase tickets visit www.ticketmaster.com.
