Children Getting Hit Hardest In Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Cucumbers
DENVER (CBS4) - The deadly nationwide salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers continues to grow.
Two people have died -- one in California and one in Texas -- and more than 400 people have gotten sick.
Children and young people are getting hit the hardest.
"A person infected with salmonella usually has fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea for about four to seven days," said Dr. Laura Gieraltowski, an epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Most people recover without treatment though there are some severe illnesses that do require hospitalization."
The recalled cucumbers were sold between Aug. 1 and Sept. 3 in two dozen states including Colorado.
The CDC says if there's any doubt, thrown them out.
