Dozens Displaced After Apartment Complex Fire In Westminster
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - A fire forced dozens of people from their residences at a Westminster apartment complex Sunday morning and arson is suspected.
Flames erupted at the Skyview Apartments on 116th Avenue around 4 a.m. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get it under control.
Tenant Alexis Dickson was asleep with her boyfriend when she was woken up by a neighbor.
"We had some guy screaming, 'fire, there's a fire,' and he started banging on our door," Dickson said. "It was the most alarming wake-up call I ever had. I mean i jumped out of bed terrified."
Another tenant heard windows breaking.
"I basically heard what sounded like a basketball going through a window which woke me up, and then I heard some yelling or screaming," he said.
And then there was a bright orange glow and immediately I knew that was a fire and I knocked on my roommate's door and I told him, 'Hey, we have a fire, time to go,'" tenant Chris Woodland said.
Six units were damaged and two people had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Tenants told CBS4's Howard Nathan they saw a man in handcuffs. A fire department spokesman explained a person was arrested on a charge unrelated to the fire. No other details were available about the arrest.
