Gunman Arrested, Wanted In Gypsum Shooting, Robbery

GYPSUM, Colo. (CBS4)- Garfield County Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting in Gypsum. Authorities had been searching for the suspect for nearly 12 hours.

Deputies say Jesus Manuel Miranda Jr. robbed the Tienda Montes restaurant located at 925 Green Way Dakota Square in Gypsum about 12:30 p.m. Friday with another suspect, a female.

During the robbery one person was shot and rushed to the hospital. That victim has not been identified.

Miranda and the other suspect ran away from the shooting and all schools in Gypsum were placed on lock out status. Once students were released, Gypsum residents were urged to stay inside and lock all doors and windows while authorities searched for the suspect. The female suspect, who has not been identified, was taken into custody about 5 p.m. Friday.

The search for Miranda continued for several hours until deputies in Garfield County spotted a vehicle heading west on Highway 6. That vehicle matched the description of the one that Miranda was seen in leaving the scene of the shooting.

The passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Miranda, was detained and taken into custody but the driver ran away. Deputies called in a K-9 unit to track down the driver who was located within 40 minutes. The identity of the driver has not been released.

The vehicle was impounded for evidence and both Miranda and the other suspect were taken to Eagle County.
