Volunteers Search For Deadly Crash Victim's Missing Pets On I-70

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- After a deadly rollover crash on Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel, volunteers with tracking dogs and others worked to find the victim's missing pets.

The driver, Kayce Chik, 25, of Lakewood, did not survive the August 23 crash.

Her family says her two cats and a dog that were in the car at the time of the crash did survive. The dog, Tulo, and the cats, Righto and Rado, ran into the wilderness.

Searchers tracked animal scent near the crash site on Thursday.

"I can't believe how many people, how many organizations have just appeared and are willing to help," said Betty Maybin, Kayce's grandmother. "It's amazing, it's amazing."

"Her animals were her world," said Maybin. "She would want us to be doing this, she wouldn't want them out there scared."

Kayce's family says animals were her life, they were drawn to her and her to them. She loved all animals, from hamsters and gerbils to cats and dogs and everything in between. Kayce even took in abandoned baby possums she discovered outside.

"It would mean everything just to know where they are and to get them back if we can," said Maybin.

A Facebook group has been created to organize and inform volunteers interested in helping to find Chik's pets.
