New Colorado School Of Mines Stadium Bound To Never Have A Structural Problem

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - The new football stadium at the Colorado School of Mines is a $24 million dollar athletic complex built by engineers -- for the engineers.

The Marv Kay Stadium will be debuting this Saturday, but CBS4 got a sneak peek on Wednesday. CBS4's Vic Lombardi asked the former coach if he noticed that his name is on the stadium.

"Vic, I've noticed it, and some of the neighbors have noticed it too," Kay said with a laugh.

"Moving into this building is awesome," head coach Gregg Brandon said. "I mean you've got a big time facility here. I mean this facility rates better than some (Division I) places I've been. This is a big time place; I'm excited to coach here."

"I think it was always a dream of all the young guys that played with it, that I coached, guys that I played ... all the coaches and staff that have served time at Mines," Kay said. "This is a dream coming true."

"I came in this morning and we had a young man studying with his laptop and his books out right here," Mines Athletic Director David Hansburg said about the locker room. "But this is also for fun and we have some video game stations, a bunch of sectional couches. So we really wanted to design a place for football players to come, relax, do work, have fun, and play."

Because it's the School of Mines the stadium is bound to never have a structural problem.

The 17th-ranked Orediggers open the season this Saturday against the South Dakota School of Mines.
