Broncos Sign Tight End Dan Light, Cut Receiver/Returner Solomon Patton
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The "Gronk of the Bronx" might just become the "Gronk of the Broncos."
Dan Light, the Fordham tight end with the catchy moniker, signed with Denver on Friday.
Light (6-5, 265 pounds) caught 177 passes for 1,594 yards and nine touchdowns during his four-year college career.
He led all FCS tight ends with 66 catches as a junior but his draft stock plunged when he tore a knee ligament against Army last November.
To make room, the Broncos waived receiver/returner Solomon Patton, who was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay in May.
Patton got off to a great start in camp, returning punts and kickoffs and making big plays at receiver before muffing a punt at Seattle and falling behind his competition.
