Lutheran Medical Center Shows Off New Emergency Room

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- Lutheran Medical Center showed off its renovated emergency room on Thursday. It's one of the busiest emergency departments in Colorado.

The $16 million renovation upgrades the level of service to more than 70,000 patients who go to the ER each year. Although the 52 bed count remains the same, the renovations expanded the space which is designed to make it more comfortable for patients needing emergency care.

Major improvements to the facility include 50 individual patient treatment rooms; expanded Senior ER with 14 larger, full-service rooms specifically created for the needs of older patients; new well-lighted walk-in entrance for patients; dedicated Fast-Track area close to the walk-in entrance where patients with less serious conditions can be served faster; specially-designed behavioral health area with individual rooms and dedicated nurses station; updated technology-based services in all patient treatment rooms for nursing staff.

"Lutheran has been a part of the west Denver community for 110 years," said Grant Wicklund, president and CEO, in a statement. "We've made many improvements to our facility over the years, and remodeling our ER was a priority at this time.

"We are a Primary Stroke Center and a Chest Pain Center, and the level of emergency care and critical care that we provide is partly why we've been named a Top 100 hospital," he added. "This community and our EMS partners rely on us to provide high-quality, safe emergency care in a clean, healing environment and this beautiful new space is going to help us do that for many years to come."
