Metal Detectors Being Installed At Sports Authority Field At Mile High

DENVER (CBS4) - New security measures are going into effect at Sports Authority Field at Mile High this season and they should streamline things for dedicated Broncos fans.

In recent years fans coming through the gates at the stadium have been subjected to security checks through a hand wand and pat down system. A walk-thru metal detector security system will now replace that process.

Stadium officials announced on Friday that there will be 93 detectors installed in the stadium, and they will be used for all games, concerts and other events at the stadium.

Scott Bliek, Assistant General Manager of Sports Authority Field at Mile High, said he expects the metal detectors to reduce lines at the gates for fans.

"We hope that it will be a smoother process, time will be less for them to get in, and the intrusion level of, you know, touching people and getting real close, intimitely up into their faces with the hand wands (will go away)," Bliek told CBS4.

Bliek said for the first few home games fans should plan to arrive at the stadium at least 45 minutes before kickoff so they don't miss any of the action as the stadium staff get comfortable with the detectors.
