McKenry Needs Knee Surgery, Rockies Call Up Catcher Garneau

DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Rockies have called up catcher Dustin Garneau from Triple-A Albuquerque to replace catcher Michael McKenry, who needs surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season.

The Rockies placed McKenry on the 60-day disabled list on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Garneau, who is making his first appearance on a major league roster, will be available against Washington on Wednesday night.

He was a selected in the 19th round of the 2009 draft by the Rockies. He hit .274 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 81 games for the Isotopes this season.

The 30-year-old McKenry is batting .205 with four home runs as a backup to starter Nick Hundley. McKenry has been bothered by knee pain for most of the season.
