'Steam On The Platte' Project Seeks To Redevelop Industrial Neighborhood

DENVER (CBS4) - In an abandoned industrial corridor of the South Platte River is a redevelopment project working to transform the area into an urban oasis.

Steam on the Platte is a 3.2-acre plot near the Interstate 25 interchange with West Colfax Avenue. The mixed-use project at West 14th Avenue and Zuni Street will utilize one of the city's most beautiful landscapes, the South Platte River, in juxtaposition with the industrial history.

The neighborhood hopes to find synergy between the old steam plants and smokestacks and the river's sustainability.

Denver's largest remaining undeveloped exposed brick-and-timber warehouse is found there and will be transformed into new office space, thus recycling the property. New residential space will be constructed and a restaurant will be placed in another existing building.

It also boasts a convenient downtown location with a light rail stop, bike path, access to Sports Authority Field and riverside setting.

Steam on the Platte will break ground at the end of 2015, and is expected to be completed in fall of 2016.
