GoFundMe Donations For Boulder Hit & Run Victim Reach $50,000

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- The search for a driver who crashed into a motorcycle, and then sped away, continues. The motorcyclist was seriously hurt and continues to undergo surgeries to recover.

"He's in pretty bad shape but we know he'll get through it. It's going to be a long road," said the victim's sister-in-law Martha Danielson.

Shane Upchurch was seriously injured when a driver crashed into him on Aug. 6 at Highway 119 and 63rd Street in Boulder. He suffered a head injury and broken ribs. On Monday, he had surgery on his leg.

"We're really grateful that the people who witnessed the crash ran to Shane to help him. It's a miracle that he's alive," said Danielson.

Police said they are looking for a white box truck in connection with the crime but no other suspect details are known.

Upchurch moved to Colorado five years ago and worked as a popular Crossfit coach.

His family started a GoFundMe page to help offset his medical expenses. They planned to raise about $5,000 but instead, the page has raised more than $51,000 as of Tuesday.

"And then it just blew up and we've been amazed by everyone's generosity," said Danielson. "It really just shows Shane's character and how well he cares for people and people are just giving it back."

Upchurch was wearing full protective gear which his family credits with saving his life.

Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call Boulder Police.
