Brush Fire In Greeley Melts Property Owner's Fence

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- Firefighters and neighbors battled a brush fire in Greeley on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started burning at approximately 4:20 p.m. near 10th Street and Promontory Circle. The flames melted a plastic fence.

Firefighters from Greeley and Windsor were involved in the firefight.

The fire started in Greeley but spread to property outside city lines into Weld County.

Winds helped fuel the flames along with hot and dry conditions.

Liz Blazio saw the flames come close to her house and used a hose in an effort to keep the fire from spreading.

"I saw some smoke in the distance coming up the hill," said Blazio. "And it was in a place that I didn't want to see smoke -- up by my place. So we drove up here rather quickly, and it melted this fence in about 2 seconds."

Blazio's neighbors also dug ditches to try to stop the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
